Cholesterol & A Healthy Heart

Heart deceases are the the plague of the 21st Century and as the main casue of death amongst mid-aged mena and women in western cultures, we all know someone who has suffered trauma to the heart. A father, mother, aunt, uncle, brother or sister – keeping the choleterol level low will make the difference between life and death.

Different for Men and Women

An common urban legend is that men more often than women are hit with heart attacks, coagulation (blood clotting) and strokes. This is not true. As a matter of fact women after menopause suffer greater risk of heart deceases than men 50+. Before menopause a higher level of estrogen helps maintain the cholestrol level low but after when the estrogen level drops the choleterol level can increase if not careful. The same goes for removal of ovaries.

Risk of birth control pills

The level of choleterol is best at 60 mg/dl for both genders. Doctors consider under 40mg/dl as less w cholesterol level for men and 50mg/dl for women. Regular check-ups are also encourage to lower risk of heart decease due to high cholesterol levels. Women who are taking medication, especially birth control pills, are encourage to take more frequent and earlier testings since the hormones in the pills are strongly connected to a increased risk of high choleterol levels and blood clotting.
