Mental Health – Communication Is King!

When it comes to the feeling of not being enough, less than other people, not cool or funny, being self-destructive or having other ghosts in your head there is only one way to start feeling better about yourself and your character. Talk about it. Easier said than done, I know, but by doing so you will acknowledge the thing that is bothering you.

Now some of you may think that talking about e.g. your relationship with your parents or the feeling of being lost and not knowing who you are, will only make things worse. This is not true; it might not make it significantly better, but it will never make it worse.

Finding Someone Who Understands

Reaching a state of self-acceptance does not happen over night or over one conversation. But by communication your state of mind you will instantly start feeling better. Now, it is important that you find somebody that is a good listener and understands what you are going through.

Talking is a great way to un-dramatize your thoughts and feelings but in order to make sense out of them and accepting them you will need somebody who can help you. Not only listening and saying they understand but actually being able to say what you need to hear.

Family

Many people who are in need of relieving their mind often turn to the ones who are closest to them; family. This can turn out to be the best thing they ever did not only finding somebody to talk to but also evolving a deeper friendship with parents or siblings.

But this is not something to take for granted. Family members often value their relationships to each other more than to others and would jump through fire their offspring or blood relations.

This said, a family is also simply a group of individuals with different experiences and backgrounds that will affect their way of communicating.

Friends

When family consists of relationships chosen not by you but by the infinite cycle of life, friends are made on totally different terms. These people you have gotten to know not because you have to but because they have something you like.

Being in the same age can also often help friends relate better than elder generations and understand what you are going through.

Therapy

Even when the thought of going to therapy might be scary and seem a little too much talking to a professional often eases even the silliest problems. A lot of people use therapists to make sense of their troubles and it is quite common in the U.S.
